One of the most beautiful photos I’ve ever taken — this is from the Nutcracker Ballet that I designed the lighting for in December.
You will never be rich, but you will always be the happiest person in the room.
In the end, that is worth so much more than money — you can’t even imagine.
Novella Smith
Wow…just wow.
Moments ago I finished a phone call with Novella, who is a role model of mine in lighting design. We were talking about how she started in lighting, and she had this to say about it, which came 25 minutes before our trip down her memory lane had brought her to tears.

Fred Foster lit up with an LED Source Four. on Flickr.
This is how our CEO dressed to give a keynote presentation to ~300 people this morning where he announced a new product that will revolutionize the theatrical lighting industry as we know it.
In his classic style, he walks around in Birkenstocks and part-way through today’s presentation slipped them off and gave much of his presentation barefoot.
Barefoot and sitting down, he gave news today that will rock the lighting industry into a new era of how theatres will light their events.
One moment he was taking questions from the audience, and then next moment he dropped a bomb on the audience and began showing off the capabilities of the dream lighting fixture that every lighting designer has been waiting the last several years for.

The $3000 Photo
My Canon 60D DSLR and all of the lenses and accessories I ordered last week showed up Friday, just in time for Saturday’s Oconomowoc’s Got Talent community talent show.
With my new camera, this photo is one of many that I was able to snap last night. Featured are a brother and sister who had just finished singing a duet.
During the applause the brother surprised his sister with a hug just before they took their bows.
This is the photo I’ll show people when they ask why on earth I would spend $3000 on a camera.
