Apoplectic Skeptic: $1.1B didn't buy tumblr, per se. It bought us. →

As I’ve said before (along with plenty of others, I’m sure)… if you’re getting something for free, such as, oh… I dunno… maybe a slick, easy, stylish, trendy blogging service based in NYC… then you’re the product being sold.

Why people are asking for “their slice” of the big ol’ money pie is a…

I’d pay for a pro account as well. Just like there’s Flickr Pro, I’d pay for a Tumblr Pro.

I wouldn’t use Tumblr if it wasn’t worth enough to me that I’d be willing to pay an annual subscription for using it.

The FBI arrested a man planning to carry out a terror attack last week. Why haven’t you heard of him? Probably because his name is Buford Rogers and he’s white.

While I suspect there’s some truth that the public cares less about this guy because he’s white, I think there’s more truth in that the public cares less about him because he hadn’t yet blown anything (or anyone) up.

Historically, the FBI and the government as a whole doesn’t get much attention or congratulations for heading possible attacks off at the pass.

Remember just after the Boston Bomber how there was that plot to attack an Amtrak train coming from the United States into Canada? Remember how that came and went with little more than a headline across the bottom ticker on the news channels? The two guys apprehended were receiving actual support from Al Qaeda, and yet that success in apprehending them registered as a blip on the media radar for a mere day or two with little follow-up since then.

People care about things that have gone boom and things that might go boom. Not about things that haven’t and won’t go boom because the suspects were apprehended before they could cause any damage.
